Everyone wants to be successful. Whether it’s wealth in business, a music virtuoso, a martial arts black belt, or a great parent and spouse success is always something we strive for.
Unfortunately, few of us are PREPARED to pay the price that success requires. By price I don’t mean money. I refer to the hard work, the time, dedication and sometimes agony it takes to be a success.
A long time ago, I realized that people judge success from the outside; the material facade that we associate with success. What most don’t see is what lies beneath.
Success often has nothing to do with talent. Much of it has to do with pain tolerance and how someone responds to adversity. Years of training and learning from those before me taught me success is, as Coach Martin Rooney says, nothing but a combination of PREPARATION and agonizing HARD WORK.
Clients approach me with a picture in their mind of success. Sometimes that picture is literally that of a fit magazine cover model or athlete. My initial response is to question if they understand what they are asking for. Do they truly understand what it took for that person to achieve the level of physical fitness depicted in that picture. They usually don’t.
When I teach a daily class, no one see the years of PREPARATION that went into that hour class. The hours of training, traveling to seminars, watching VHS videos (yes, VHS!) and reading books. They only experience the result.
My point today is to understand that your success won’t happen overnight nor will it be easy. If you chose to lose 20lbs, get a promotion at work, become more fit, earn a black belt then you should expect to work hard, expect some trials and tribulations, expect some agony and expect to want to quit….because that’s what most people do…quit…and that’s why most admire successful people rather than become one!
Don’t Quit! Prepare. Work Hard. Be Successful!!
